Torrey Meeks joined the US Army as a combat medic two days out of high school, serving with the 1/9 Infantry Battalion in South Korea. He was discharged honorably in 2003.
He started freelance writing for trade publications in 2005.
In 2007 he began teaching himself video production and post-production. He soon remixed Bill O'Reilly's vintage meltdown on Inside Edition to a dance beat by Revolucian. The video went viral and was nominated for Best Viral Video of 2008 by the Webby Awards.
Close on the heels of O'Reilly, a 3-minute report he created for the YouTube and Pulitzer Center Project: Report challenge was nominated as a Round 1 top ten semi-finalist. His Round 2 report, Juárez: City at War, earned a special mention on The Pulitzer Center blog with Round 3 finalists.
His videos have received more than 4 million views, and his work has been highlighted in Wired Magazine, The New York Observer and Rolling Stone.
He is currently making a living as a writer, videomaker and animator. He lives in New Mexico with his wife and a cat.
